Son of a Broker at the F18 World Championship 2012

October 23, 2012

If you ever thought that working in a family business would be a chore think again! Sure, you can’t get away from your family. Ever. But at the same time there are some sweet perks. I found this out last month when I went to the Long Beach California for the 2012 Globaltech Formula 18 Catamaran World Championship.
The experience was a humbling one. My skipper and I are just weekend warriors who sail local events driven by the thrill and the fun of being on the water competing. When we arrived in Long Beach we were up against 120 boats from around the world including many Olympic and professional sailors, not to mention boat and sail designers who have dedicated their lives to sailing.
We finished somewhere in the middle of the fleet but it was an incredibly rewarding experience for this Toronto mortgage broker. There is a moment when you are sitting on the race course  surrounded by some of the best sailing talent that you realize you’ll never win a world championship. But that is okay because I can probably arrange a better mortgage than they can!
Here are some pictures and video of the event.
